Hundreds pass books in 'Book Brigade' before new Wichita library opens

The new location is at 2nd and McLean

WICHITA, Kan. - Hundreds of people helped pass books from the old central library in downtown Wichita to the new Advanced Learning Library at 2nd and McLean. Library Director Cynthia Berner said the "Book Brigade" had a great turnout.

"It's been a great day," said Library Director Cynthia Berner. "We've had people lined up between both buildings, had a great time with the book brigade. I understand the last book went through very slowly because everyone wanted a picture with it."

Berner said she thinks around a thousand people helped with the ceremonial book transfer.

Congressman Ron Estes, Mayor Jeff Longwell, and several Wichita City Council members took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new library. Estes said he works with the workforce and education committee at the Capitol.

"We're trying to figure out ways to help people with a lifetime of learning and good enrichment opportunities," Estes said. "They're going to get that with the Advanced Learning Library."

The new library location at 2nd and McLean is open the following hours:

Monday through Thursday - 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday and Saturday - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday - 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
