TOPEKA, Kan. - Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has announced that Wichita businessman Wink Hartman will be his running mate in the governor's race.
Our state needs leaders with backbone. Leaders who will stand up for Kansas taxpayers. Today, I’m excited to announce that @WinkHartmanKS has agreed to join our team as my Lt. Governor candidate! #ksleg #TeamKobach pic.twitter.com/7Ot84QKvvj— Kris W. Kobach (@KrisKobach1787) March 21, 2018
Hartman had been running for governor, but suspended his campaign last month and announced that he was endorsing Kobach for governor. It comes a day after Kobach was in court, defending himself in a contempt hearing in connection to the ACLU's challenge of Kansas Voter ID law.
U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson ripped into Kobach for not following her previous orders to update the state election guide, and to order county election offices to notify residents who had registered to vote at driver's license offices without proof of citizenship that they could vote in the 2016 election.
Robinson will rule at a later date on the issue, and whether or not to hold Kobach in contempt of court. He could face a fine or harsher penalties.
