WICHITA, Kan. - A 25-year-old man accused in the stabbing death of his girlfriend has made his first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court.
Dylan Barber is charged with first-degree murder. He is facing an additional charge of criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
It happened around around 2 a.m. Tuesday inside of an apartment near 21st and Amidon. Wichita Police say Barber called 911 reporting that he hurt his girlfriend.
When police arrived they took Barber into custody who was armed with a knife. Inside they found 22-year-old McKenzie Payne.
She had been stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Barber was booked into jail for first-degree murder.
A judge has scheduled a preliminary hearing for Barber for July 12.
