WICHITA, Kan. - A 39-year-old Wellington man has been sentenced to probation for stealing over $7,000 from a GoFundMe account.
Martin Kerr, formally of Haysville, pleaded guilty in March to one count of felony theft for diverting funds from the account that was supposed to help the family of an 11-year-old girl critically burned in a 2015 house fire in Haysville. More than 100 people had donated a total of $7,463.95.
Kerr was sentenced to probation due to his lack of criminal history. He was also ordered to make minimum monthly payments of $150 over the next five years to his victims.
He could face 6 months in prison for violating the terms of his probation. His codefendant is scheduled to go on trial in June.
