Mayor pleased with Wichita as NCAA host city

Mayor Longwell praises transportation efforts

Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell had a lot of good things to say about the way Wichita hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

Mayor Longwell was very please with the transportation system that was in place over the weekend.

"I looked at the numbers given to us during the Thursday through Saturday tournament; 15,000 people used the Q-Line," Longwell said.

Longwell went on to explain that they looked at the Q-Line previously, and bolstered the hours of operation. Before changing the hours, the Q-Line was only running about 4,000 people a year. Over 60,000 riders have used the Q-Line from May to December 2017.

Mayor Longwell attended the Saturday events himself and was very impressed with the crowds that came out, and also credited the fans for coming out to the teams practices prior to the tournament. Nearly 15,000 fans came out to view practices, more than any other host city.

Finally, Longwell went on to comment about how the success of this round will set Wichita up for future tournaments. Wichita is already scheduled to be a host site again in 2021.
