Wichita - A new community alert notification system has been launched for the city of Newton. It will alert residents by text, e-mail or phone for local emergency situations and relevant community advisories.
City Manager, Bob Myers said "We think this system will be a fantastic tool for keeping residents informed and safe."
The City plans to send out information in the following instances:
- Urgent matters that could affect life and property, such as severe weather warnings, police and fire activity boil orders and public health emergencies.
- Advisories regarding water main breaks, major road closures, trash pickup delays, and other important service information.
- Community messages including everyday news and holiday trash schedule reminders.
Residents can customize their alert setting, and there is no cost. Alert settings can be changed at www.nixle.com and creating a user profile.
