WICHITA, Kan - Sedgwick County commissioner Michael O'Donnell has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of wire fraud and money laundering.
O'Donnell is accused of taking around $10,000 from his campaign accounts and transferring it to his personal accounts. He was originally charged in June, and a new 26-count indictment was issued in August, dropping a charge of bank fraud.
A judge denied a request by O'Donnell's attorneys to dismiss the federal charges. The attorneys had argued that the case should fall under the jurisdiction of local and state courts.
A trial date for O'Donnell has been scheduled for November 13th.
