WICHITA, Kan - An attorney for Sedgwick County commissioner Michael O'Donnell has filed a motion asking for dismissal of the 12-count federal indictment against him.
O'Donnell was charged in May with wire fraud, bank fraud and money laundering. He is accused of transferring money from his campaign accounts to his personal account and making false reports to the state ethics commission on the transactions.
The motion filed by O'Donnell's attorney referred to "overzealous prosecution" and stated that the alleged actions came to light during a federal investigation involving "higher profile persons of interest." The motion says the allegations should be handled in state court.
