HUTCHINSON, Kan - A Reno County sheriff's deputy was treated and released for minor injuries after his patrol car hit three horses walking on a county road.
The accident happened around 8 p.m. Thursday. Sheriff's captain Steve Lutz said deputy John Hendricks was on routine patrol on East 4th Avenue, east of Hutchinson. As he approached Augustine Drive he encountered three horses walking in the roadway, but he was unable to stop in time. The deputy was treated at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for cuts to his face and arms.
A veterinarian was called to the scene to treat the injured horses. One of the horses was considered to have critical injuries.
The deputy's patrol car, a 2017 Ford Police Interceptor, was heavily damaged in the accident.
