Wichita hit-and-run leads to standoff

An 18-year-old man is in custody

WICHITA, Kan - An 18-year-old man is in custody after a hit-and-run incident in south Wichita that left a woman and her young daughter with serious injuries.

Officer Charley Davidson said a 37-year-old woman got into an argument Sunday afternoon with her 18-year-old former boyfriend, and she then left a home with her daughter near 31st Street South and Clifton. As she and the daughter were walking along a street, they were hit by an SUV.   They were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Davidson said the driver ran from the scene and it was believed he was locked inside a home. A SWAT team was called to the scene for a standoff situation, but the driver was later arrested in a traffic stop by Kechi police in the 6500 block of North Hillside.

The man was booked into jail for attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping and outstanding warrants.
