UPDATE: One killed, one hurt in fiery semi truck crash south of Goddard

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. - UPDATE:   The Sedgwick County sheriff's office says a 20-year-old Wichita woman died in the crash involving a car and a semi on MacArthur near 183rd Street West.  The woman's name will be released on Wednesday.   The driver of the semi had minor burns on his legs, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

One person has died after a head-on crash between a car and a semi truck south of Goddard. The vehicles crashed on MacArthur Road, west of 183rd Street West, at around 3:49 Tuesday morning.

The driver of the car died, and the driver of the semi truck was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Captain Brad Hoch with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said the truck was carrying dry groceries that caught fire. Firefighters were on scene for several hours trying to put out the flames.

Crews had part of MacArthur blocked while they worked to clean up the crash Tuesday morning. If your commute takes you on MacArthur between 199th Street West and 183rd Street West, you might need to take another route.



Serious injuries have been reported in an early morning crash in the 19,000 block of West 39th Street South. A semi truck caught fire after the crash on West MacArthur Road east of Lake Afton at 3:49 Tuesday morning.

A supervisor with Sedgwick County Emergency Dispatch confirmed to KFDI News that emergency crews found at least one person with critical injuries.

MacArthur Road is expected to be blocked as crews work to clean up the crash, and that road closure could affect your morning commute. Expect road or lane closures on W MacArthur Rd/W 39th St S between 183rd St W and 199th St W Tuesday morning.
