WICHITA, Kan - United Way of the Plains has started a new texting feature for its 211 information line.
United Way president Pat Hanrahan said more people are using texting as a primary means of communication, and the new option will help more people find the services they need.
211 provides information on a variety of resources to help people in need across Kansas. United Way 211 handles 50,000 calls each year and 28,000 online searches.
To use the new texting service, people can text their zip code to 898211. A local 211 specialist will answer the text and help callers find the local nonprofit or government agency that can meet their needs.
