WICHITA, Kan - Hot air balloons, a Sundown Parade and a food court will be among the attractions in downtown Wichita as the 47th annual Wichita River Festival gets underway.
Riverfest begins Friday morning with the Admiral's Breakfast, and a gaming arena wil be held at the Century II Exhibition Hall. The Sundown Parade will be held Friday evening and a pops concert will begin a series of music events throughout the nine-day run of the festival.
The Kansas Health Foundation River Run will be held Saturday morning, and the schedule includes a mix of music and science with the Squonk Opera of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Riverfest has 137 events and attractions, including 20 new events. Admission is with a $10 Riverfest button for adults and a $5 button for children ages 6 to 12.
People are urged to wear light colored clothing and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, since the forecast calls for temperatures to be near 97 with heat index readings of near 105.
