WICHITA, Kan. - UPDATE 8:20 A.M.:
Our news partners at KWCH received a statement from the family of Lucas Hernandez in response to the death of Emily Glass:
"Today, Emily Glass chose to end her own life. We are deeply shocked and saddened by this turn of events. Another mother and father have lost a child. Children have lost their mother, and a family will have to grieve someone they loved. We know from experience how heartbreaking and tragic this will be for them.
This is not the ending we would have chosen for Emily. She was the only person on this earth who could tell us what the last moments of our child’s life were like. We wanted answers and we still want justice. Our hope is that the truth will still come out, that there will be answers to the many questions we have.
Please keep Emily’s family in your thoughts and prayers, along with ours. None of us wanted or expected all this loss and devastation that has come to pass. Give both of our families’ time to process this unexpected death.
Jamie Taylor-Orr and Jonathan Hernandez "
UPDATE: Our news partners at KWCH report the woman found dead early Friday morning was Emily Glass, according to their sources. Wichita Police have not yet confirmed that woman's identity.
A person has been found dead at the home where Emily Glass lived with Jonathan Hernandez near Kellogg and Edgemoor in Wichita. Hernandez is the father of Lucas Hernandez, a Wichita boy who went missing in February and was found dead in Harvey County May 24.
The 911 call that led police to that home in the 600 block of south Edgemoor first came in as a report of a shooting at 1:38 Friday morning. The caller told police they found a woman in the home who was not breathing and had a gunshot wound.
Police said a "white female" was found dead inside the home. A Wichita Police officer said they cannot yet confirm if the death was a murder or if the woman killed herself, and the investigation is ongoing.
Emily Glass led a private investigator to the body of 5-year-old Lucas Hernandez in Harvey County just over two weeks ago. Glass was booked into Sedgwick County Jail for interference with law enforcement and obstruction, but she was released without charges.
KFDI News has not yet confirmed if the body found Friday morning was Glass. This is a developing story. Check back for more information as it becomes available.
