A three-year-old girl died and a woman has critical injuries after a car fire at a Quik Trip in Derby late Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 5:15 p.m. at a Quik Trip location at 1430 North Nelson Drive, near K-15 and Meadowlark.  Crews reported a car fully involved in flames on top of the gas pumps, and heavy smoke could be seen for some distance.  Police said a car that was traveling on Meadowlark went out of control and into the Quik Trip parking lot, hitting another vehicle at a gas pump.  The gas pump was knocked over, causing an explosion and fire.

The victims have not been identified.   Police were talking to the driver of the car that went out of control.

A number of fire response vehicles were sent to the scene.   Meadowlark was closed between K-15 and Nelson, and the Quik Trip was closed for the evening.
