The Red Cross in Wichita is kicking off the 24th annual Battle of the Badges blood drive.
It’s a competition with law enforcement, firefighters and EMS to get the most votes from blood donors over a two-week period. The drive begins Monday and continues through December 31st. People can go to the Red Cross office at 707 North Main to donate blood and then vote for police, fire or EMS. Law enforcement won the competition last year.
Kelly Carpenter of the Red Cross said the drive has collected over 27,000 pints of blood. The goal for this year’s drive is 1,355 platelet and blood donations. Commemorative t-shirts will be given to blood donors.
