Sedgwick County said someone used a false county email address to contact vendors and try to obtain financial information. An email was sent to vendors, and it was made to look like it came from an official Sedgwick County account.
The email asked vendors to provide information on past financial transactions, but the county said no sensitive information was compromised and no financial transactions were completed.
The county’s Information Technology Infrastructure director, Joe Currier, said the emails were generated by a “malicious actor who is unassociated with Sedgwick County.”
The Sedgwick County sheriff’s department was notified about the false emails.
