The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Rawlins County Sheriff’s Office following the death of a father and son northeast of Colby.
It began shortly after 2 p.m. Friday when dispatchers received a call from a family member reporting a man had been shot at a rural residence near Rexford, Kansas. When deputies arrived, they found the body of 74-year-0ld Gary E. Withers.
The KBI says Withers had suffered a gunshot wound. A short time later, deputies found a second body about a half-mile away, outside of Withers home.
The body belonged to Withers 41 year old son Daniel “Danny” E. Withers. He also suffered a gunshot wound.
The KBI says autopsies are being performed, but they don’t believe there is any danger to the public.
