A parent of a Maize South high school basketball player has filed an appeal after the Kansas State High Schools Activities Association (KSHAA) benched the player and stripped the team of six wins.
KSHAA said they received a tip that Zayda Perez failed to sit out 18 weeks after she transferred from Valley Center High School to Maize South for her senior year. The girl’s mother said the suspension happened because of a paperwork error on the school’s part. Now, Perez has to sit out the rest of her senior season.
The Lady Mavericks will go from an undefeated 20-0 on the season to 14-6 because of the clerical error.
