Star Spangled Salute: A Live Saving Reunion 50 Years In The Making

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Vietnam veterans Dennis Joyner and Dewey “Doc” Hayes.  In 1969, with a wife and a newborn son, 20 year old Dennis, an infantryman in Vietnam, tripped a land mine.  The explosion took one of his legs, forced the amputation of the other and took his left arm below the elbow.  Dennis would have bled to death if not for the quick actions of a medic who ran to his side, tied a series of tourniquets, gave Dennis morphine and got him to a medivac helicopter.  That was 50 years ago and Dennis has been searching a very long time to thank the man who saved his life and just the other day, he finally had the opportunity to do just that.  The two men met and the thank you’s and the emotions poured out.  Thank you Dennis and Dewey for your service.
