Kansas House votes to expand Medicaid

The Kansas House has voted to approve Medicaid expansion.

The vote today was 69-54 in favor of expansion.  The bill needed 63 votes to pass and now moves to the Kansas Senate.

Senate leadership is opposed to the expansion and may not let the bill come to the floor for a vote.  If it is allowed to be voted on, it could possibly go through.

In 2017, the senate voted to approve Medicaid expansion, but the bill was vetoed by Governor Sam Brownback.  Republican leaders argue the bill would be too costly.

However, 90% of the funding would come from the federal government.  If approved, the bill would expand coverage for 150,000 uninsured Kansans.
