Star Spangled Salute: A Small Gesture Brings a Veteran to Tears

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honor Vietnam Army veteran Thomas Bardzeiwicz.  Thomas was drafted into the Vietnam war on August 4th, 1969, he served his country and when he returned home, he like many of his fellow soldiers, did not receive the welcome he expected.  He said they were warned by their CO that “it was not going to be nice at the airports” and it wasn’t.  50 years later, Thomas was moved to tears by a simple act of kindness.  He was in line at a Chipotle when a stranger came up to him, put his hand on his shoulder and thanked him for his service.  When Thomas got to the counter, he was told his meal was all paid for.  Thomas said that small gesture moved him to tears because that was the very first time, since returning home from Vietnam, that someone acknowledged his service. He’s now using Facebook to find that stranger so he can personally thank him for a lot more than just the meal.  Thank you Thomas for your service.
