Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Marine Veteran Richard Oulton. It was 1967, Richard was part of the 1st Battalion 9th Marine nick named “The Walking Dead” because of the high casualty rate. Richard was a combat medic and saw first hand the horrors of war. When his service was done, his fight was not over because back in 1999, he wanted to raise the flag of the country he served and his HOA said no. This began a 20-year battle with hundreds of thousands in court fees and it has finally come to an end with Richard winning the right raise the American flag, once called an “visual nuisance” by his HOA. Fly your flag with pride Richard and thank you for your service.
