The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is warning again about scam artists who are impersonating employees of the department on the telephone.
Residents are getting a phone call from someone claiming to be Lt. Tim Myers with the sheriff’s office. The caller is demanding the resident make an immediate payment for unpaid fines or warrants, usually claiming the person missed jury duty.
At other times, the caller claims to be accepting donations for the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. These scammers can often “spoof” caller ID to make it appear that the call is coming from the sheriff’s office.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says they never collect fines by phone. If you receive a call like this and want to verify if it’s real, call the sheriff’s office at (316) 660-3880.
If you have been the victim of this scam, contact the police department for your area or the sheriff’s office.
