The Wichita Police Department, Exploited and Missing Child Unit, the Department of Children and Families are investigating the May 31 death of a 2-year-old boy at a south Wichita motel.
At 9:46 a.m. a 23-year-old woman called 911 to report the child was not breathing at a motel in the 2300 block of South Broadway. The boy, identified as Zayden Jaynesahkluah was pronounced dead at 10:35 a.m.
Kansas Representative Michael Capps who represents the area tells our news partners at KWCH 12 that the boy was found alone and unresponsive. His death is an ongoing investigation and no further details have been released by authorities.
A GofundMe has been established for the family to help cover funeral expenses.
“What we’d really like to see is more forthcoming information coming from the Department for Children and Families. Again we’re talking about a child that died almost a week ago.” said Capps in an interview with KWCH 12. He says he would like to see state lawmakers to address what he says are ongoing problems with DCF involving children in potentially abusive or neglect situations.
