Wichita’s 48th Riverfest reports an estimated 440,000 people who attended the nine days of activities, a drop of four percent.   Stormy weather on Wednesday and Thursday was a factor in the decline.

The Arkansas River was closed to public use because of a strong flow of water and debris from recent rains and flooding, but the absence of water activities led to growth in other events.  The Fidelity Bank River Run had a boost of 25 percent in participation, and more people attended STEAM City, the Riverfest Classic Car Show and the Midwest Super Car Show.

The largest-drawing events were the Capitol Federal Fireworks Finale, with 60,000 in attendance Saturday night, the AutoGlass Sundown Parade with 45,000 in attendance, and the Textron Aviation Opening Night Fireworks with 40,000 people attending.

The largest stage show for Riverfest was the Spirit Aerosystems Rockin on the River concert featuring Sublime with Rome.  Around 35,000 people attended the concert at Kennedy Plaza.

Wichita Festivals reports 19,000 buttons were sold on site during the nine days of Riverfest, and tens of thousands more were sold early at Quik Trip stores.  Numbers on the early button sales are still being tabulated.

Wichita police reported handling 13 cases during the nine days of Riverfest, with five arrests, 36 EMS calls and 9 EMS transports.

Nearly 9,000 volunteers helped with Riverfest events, including 1,800 new volunteers and groups from more than 315 companies and organizations.

Wichita Festivals president and CEO Mary Beth Jarvis expressed appreciation for the sponsors and volunteers who have helped make Riverfest successful.
