An Arkansas woman was killed Tuesday when her car collided with a semi in Greenwood County. The crash was reported on Highway 54 east of Eureka around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said a car was trying to pass a semi while going east on the highway, but the car went off the roadway to the right and over-corrected to the left. The car then went in front of the semi and crossed into the westbound lane. Another semi going west tried to avoid the car and moved to the right, but it struck the passenger side of the car.
The driver of the car, 50-year-old Anita Lucy of Salem, Arkansas, was dead at the scene. The driver of the second semi, a 30-year-old Wichita man, was not hurt.
The crash forced the closing of Highway 54 for the rest of the afternoon into the evening hours.
