Anyone buying oxycodone pills off the black market may be getting a lethal dose of fentanyl instead.

Wichita police got reports from surrounding counties of oxycodone pills that were actually fentanyl. Investigators looked at drugs that had already been seized, and quickly found two cases where oxycodone pills were actually fentanyl. It’s believed some of these pills have already led to overdoses and a possible fatality in Wichita. Investigators will keep testing previously seized drugs to find how many of the fake pills may be in Wichita. Police the pills with fentanyl are being made to look like regular oxycodone pills.

At the moment, Wichita police are working to track down who is selling the fake and where they are coming from.

In Sedgwick County, EMS crews carry Narcan to help reverse an opioid overdose. Wichita police do not currently carry Narcan but they are working with the county to equip some officers with the drug.
