Police urge victims to seek help following domestic violence incident

Wichita Police are encouraging victims of domestic violence to seek out help following an incident that happened in the early morning hours Wednesday in far north Wichita.

It began around 9 a.m. Wednesday when police were called to the hospital where a 34-year-old woman reported that her boyfriend had beaten and choked her earlier that morning.  Police then went to the home of the boyfriend’s home in the 1800 block of West 53rd Street North where he was taken into custody.

He has been booked into the Sedgwick County jail where he is currently being held on felony charges of attempted first-degree murder-domestic violence, aggravated battery-domestic violence, and intimidation-domestic violence.  The case will be presented to the district attorney’s office.

Wichita Police say there are resources available to assist those in a domestic violence situation.  Public Information Officer Charley Davidson says victims can always contact 911.

In addition, they can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), The Wichita Family Crisis Center at 267-7233, Stepstone at 265-1611, or Harbor House at 263-600.  Davidson says you can also confide in a trusted friend or family member if you are afraid to contact those organizations directly.
