Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors disabled veteran Torrence Lautenbach and the strangers and organizations that gave him much needed help. Torrence was living in a house with a deck and wheel chair ramp that was rotten and unsafe. He first reached out to the VA and they said it could take up to 2 years. So he called Habitat for Humanity and the next day, the ball started rolling thanks to Habitat, volunteers from the U.S. Coast Guard and Adopt-A-Soldier. The new deck better than ever, up to code and comes with a roof. Coast Guard Petty Officer Wes Wollenberg said, ““We’re all brothers and sisters, we all put on a different uniforms but at the end of the day we’re all part of the same family.” Thank you to all the volunteers and thank you Torrence for your service.
