Victim identified in Wichita park drowning

The man who drowned Wednesday morning at Sedgwick County Park has been identified as 59-year-old Dale Reif of Wichita.

Lieutenant Tim Myers said Reif went into a lake on the south side of the park and then disappeared.  Divers pulled him from the lake but CPR efforts failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s believed that Reif went into the lake because he thought his dog was in trouble. The dog was later found running near Reif’s parked SUV, and deputies took custody of the dog to return him to the family.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
