The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says they collected nearly 800 pounds of unused and expired prescription drugs during Saturday’s National Drug Takeback.
Deputies collected the medications and 3 locations: The Sedgwick County Zoo, the Household Hazardous Waste Site, and the Oaklawn Activity Center. The final totals were 555 pounds collected at the Zoo, 161 pounds from the Household Hazardous Waste Site, and 82 pounds from the Oaklawn Activity Center, for a total of 798 pounds.
The goal of the National Drug Takeback is to prevent prescription drugs from being stolen and abused.
