Congressman Ron Estes Cosponsors Bill to Support Foster Care

Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) is an original cosponsor of the Family First Transition Act introduced today by Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Indiana) and Rep. Danny Davis (D-Illinois). The legislation will provide financial support to states implementing the Family First Prevention Services Act, which included reforms to support children in foster care as well as prevent children from needing to enter into foster care. Under the bill, Kansas would receive $4.7 million to implement these reforms. “The Family First Transition Act provides needed funding for states to support children at risk or already in foster care, including $4.7 million for Kansas,” said Rep. Estes, a Member of the Ways and Means Worker and Family Support Subcommittee. “I’m proud to cosponsor this legislation and support efforts to strengthen foster care in our state and around the country.”
In total, the Family First Transition Act would provide $500 million in one-time funding to implement the Family First Prevention Services Act which was enacted last year. A companion bill will be introduced by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon).
