The KBI and Missouri State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting. It happened after a police pursuit started in Pittsburg. A Pittsburg Police Officer tried to stop a driver over an incorrect tag, but that driver led the officer on a chase.
The chase ended when the vehicle became disabled on the Kansas-Missouri state line. The driver ran out of the Toyota Camry with a shotgun and into a field. The officer pursued the man into that field where the shooting happened.
The man shot is identified as 34-year-old Jeremy Pelican of Pittsburg. He was transferred to a hospital in Pittsburg, where he died of his injuries.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol will lead the investigation. The KBI says no further information will be released at this time.
