Wichita reports more rounds on golf courses in November

The city of Wichita has been closing one of its public golf courses each week on a rotating basis, and that hasn’t affected the number of rounds played overall.  The city’s golf division director, Troy Hendricks, says the number of rounds for November was up 41 percent compared to a year ago, when the city had five courses open.   Hendricks gives credit to mild weather for the increase.

The city closed the L.W. Clapp course last year and has been operating with Auburn Hills, McDonald Park, and the Arthur B. Sim and Tex Consolver courses.   Starting in November, the city decided to close one course each week as a way of reducing costs and catching up on maintenance needs.

Hendricks says the rotation has saved a significant amount of money for the golf division.  The rotation will continue through the end of February, and a decision will be made later on whether to continue the program next winter.

McDonald Park is closed for the next week, and then Arthur B. Sim will be closed for a week starting December 14th.  The Tex Consolver course will be closed from December 21st through the 27th, but all golf courses will be closed on Christmas Day.
