Sedgwick County identifies woman killed after chase

The Sedgwick County sheriff’s office has identified the woman who was shot and killed by a deputy after a chase in southeast Wichita.

51-year-old Debra Arbuckle of Andover was dead at the scene after the incident.   Undersheriff Brian White said Wichita police officers were chasing a car after a traffic stop early Monday morning, and deputies stopped the car near Webb Road and Mt. Vernon.   White said the car went into reverse and sped toward deputies, and one of the deputies fired several shots, striking Arbuckle.   The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is working with Sedgwick County officials to investigate the chase and shooting.

The sheriff’s office said Arbuckle had three active felony arrest warrants in Sedgwick County at the time of the chase.  They involved drug charges, traffic charges and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.   Arbuckle had been arrested 38 times, with 35 arrests in Sedgwick County, two arrests in Newton and one arrest in Texas.
