Two arrested in Topeka in car stolen out of Wichita

A man and woman have been arrested in Topeka and a car stolen out of Wichita has been recovered after they tried to get away from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened Friday in North Topeka when deputies tried to pull over a Chevy Malibu for an illegal lane change.  When the car stopped in a driveway, a 37-year-old man who was in the passenger seat ran away.

He reportedly tried to get rid of a 9mm handgun as he fled.  He was caught nearby trying to get into another vehicle and the gun recovered.

The man was booked into jail for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a parole violation, and a federal warrant.  The woman driving the car was arrested for an out of county misdemeanor warrant and may faces charges of driving without a license, obstruction, possession of stolen property, and traffic charges.
