Wichita man sentenced for carjacking incident

A Wichita man has been sentenced to almost 6 years in federal prison for a carjacking incident last fall that followed an officer-involved shooting and chase in the northwest part of the city.

30-year-old Zachary Ausdemore had pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of carjacking, admitting that on September 10th, 2019, he confronted an elderly couple and threatened to kill them unless they gave him the keys to their car.

Ausdemore was one of three people involved in an incident at 21st and Amidon when police officers were called to a report of a stolen Jeep.  Ausdemore was a passenger in the Jeep, and when the driver sped toward an officer, police fired shots.  Ausdemore and the 27-year-old driver were injured, and they jumped out and ran from the Jeep near 29th and Meridian.    The carjacking incident took place a short time later, and police chased that vehicle until it ran into a muddy ditch.

A 30-year-old woman was also arrested after the incident.

A judge gave Ausdemore 70 months in prison for the carjacking.
