Star Spangle Salute Honors An Inspirational Veteran

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Navy and Marine Veteran Daniel “Doc” Jacobs.  Doc was only 18-months into his service when his platoon was hit by an IED.  He underwent 78 surgeries, losing his left leg (below the knee), three toes from his right foot, and three partial fingers from his left hand.  Doc was determined to not let it beat him and he went on to make US Naval and Marine Corps history, becoming the first amputee Corpsman assigned to an infantry unit.  He served another 6 1/2 years from “detonation to discharge” as he likes to say.  Since then, he’s helped non-profits competing in marathons, started his own non-profit to provide scholarships for military children, he’s training to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and he donated a kidney to a stranger to help move his friend up the transplant list.  Thank you for inspiring us all Doc and thank you for your service.
