Kansas governor Laura Kelly and Kansas Senate majority leader Jim Denning had two separate roundtable discussions in Wichita to talk about Medicaid expansion.
The meetings were held Monday with local health care officials in a discussion hosted by Ascension Via Christi, and with members of the faith-based community in a gathering at First Presbyterian Church downtown.
Governor Kelly said expansion of the KanCare program will make health care accessible to 150,000 more Kansans, and she said the state has a moral obligation to make sure people are getting access to affordable health care.
A compromise bill has been introduced in the Kansas Legislature. Denning said it will not only expand access to health care to those without insurance, it is also designed to lower the cost of private insurance and expand mental health services across the state.
