Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors our National Anthem. On September 14th, 1814, Francis Scott Key witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 and was moved to write a poem, that would later provide the lyrics to our nation’s anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner”. It was on this day in 1931, that the song official became the National Anthem. Now, 2 lawmakers from Tennessee want to make September 14th a federal holiday to recognize the Star Spangled Banner.
