An offender at the Wichita Work Release Facility died on Wednesday.

This person is identified as 54-year-old Charles Rist. He was pronounced at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, and a cause of death has not determined. Officials did say this is not believed to be tied to the new coronavirus outbreak.

Rist was serving time for an offender registration violation and several drug convictions.

The KDOC and KBI are currently investigating.

The Wichita Work Release Facility is a minimum-custody state prison with a population of 250, and a satellite of the Winfield Correctional Facility.
