Coronavirus cluster with two deaths reported at Wichita care facility

Sedgwick County health officials and the Avita Assisted Living and Memory Care at Rolling Hills have announced a cluster of 15 coronavirus cases at the facility.

The cluster at the Wichita facility involved 11 staff members and four residents, and two residents have died.

Avita executive director Vicky Gooch said in a press release that positive staff members are not to report to work until they have quarantined for two weeks, show no symptoms for 72 hours, and complete a negative COVID-19 test.   She said nine of the 11 staff members who tested positive did not have symptoms.

Gooch said visitors are not allowed at the facility, but staff is making sure that residents can still connect with family through scheduled window visits, phone calls, text chat or video communication.    Avita will continue to test and monitor residents and staff.
