You can help make sure students in the Wichita area have good school supplies to get them through the year.

The Salvation Army and Walmart are putting on a “Stuff the Bus” supply drive this weekend. All area Walmart locations in Wichita, Derby, and Goddard should have barrels at the front of their stores where you can drop off purchased supplies to help kids in need.

“There are over 84,000 children in Sedgwick County whose parents will have to make the tough choice between school supplies, groceries, the electric bill or insurance,” said Major James Curl, Wichita City Commander from The Salvation Army. “We anticipate this number will increase significantly this year due to the novel coronavirus.”

Along with the usual staples of school activity, like backpacks, pencils, and crayons, the pandemic has added things like face masks and hand sanitizer to school supply lists.

The supply drive is running all weekend, from August 7th through the 9th. When you enter a Walmart, look for barrels with a “Stuff the Bus sign on them”. You can buy supplies in the store and drop them off on the way out.

If you have already purchased supplies that you would like to donate, you can drop them off at the Salvation Army’s downtown Wichita location, at 350 North Market.

There is also an option to make a monetary donation. Follow the link below to get more details on the program at the Salvation Army’s website.
