Wichita schools to offer meals for students in online programs

The Wichita school district will be offering meals to students who are enrolled in online learning programs for the fall.

Students who are enrolled in MySchool Remote are eligible to receive meals through the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program.   Students will have to be enrolled in the Wichita Public Schools and families will be charged for meals unless they qualify for free or reduced price meals.

Starting September 10th, families can pick up a box with five breakfasts and five lunches on Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m.  The meals are available at five locations:

·         Chester Lewis Academic Learning Center, 1847 N. Chautauqua

·         West High School, 820 S. Osage

·         North High School, 1437 N. Rochester

·         Enterprise Elementary, 3605 S. Gold

·         Curtis Middle School, 1031 S. Edgemoor

Students will have to be enrolled in MySchool Remote or they will have to be participating in MySchool Remote at the beginning of the school year.   Families will be asked to pre-order the meals one week in advance, and they will get an email or text reminder with a link.    The meal sites will have a list of students that have pre-ordered meals, and families will have to show proof of their order.

There will be a limited number of extra meals for families who do not pre-order, and they will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.    School officials are strongly encouraging families to pre-order.    Meals will be charged to a student’s account based on meal benefit status, whether that is free, reduced price or paid, and students will be charged for ten meals each week.   The meals will be served from Wichita Public Schools Nutrition Services delivery trucks.

Families are asked to fill out a survey to indicate interest in participating in the program by going to www.usd259.org/remotefood by Thursday, August 27th at 11 p.m.

Families can fill out a free or reduced price meal application on the web site https://family.titank12.com
