Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Army Vetern Doug Capazzi who has found a unique way to battle against Veteran suicide.  Doug feels that many are already aware of the number 22 and what the represents.  Instead, he chose do organize an event that would combat Veteran Suicide with humor and camaraderie.  So, he created the Irreverent Silkies Hike.  Silkies, the traditional military training shorts are worn by all veterans that participate.  Civilians can’t be in the walk but they can be at stops along the route and be a part of the festivities at the start and finish.  It’s all done to show people a different side of the Veteran community and to help improve mental health.
