Gov. Kelly Announces Statewide Housing Needs Assessment

Governor Kelly on Monday announced that RDG Planning & Design–a consultancy based out of Omaha–will head up the state’s first comprehensive housing needs assessment in 27 years.

Kelly said that the shortage of quality, affordable housing the state of Kansas, particularly in rural communities, is serving as a barrier to the state’s growth and development. She added that the housing assessment will offer a starting point to create a positive impact on Kansas communities and provide a higher quality of life for every member of the community.

RDG Planning and design will conduct an in-depth process that will assess current housing opportunities, identify goals, and aid in the development of strategic initiatives to help guide future housing development efforts statewide.

The firm was selected by the state’s Office of Rural Prosperity along with the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation. The assessment process is anticipated to extend through 2021.
