Evergy Warns Kansans of Scammers Posing as Employees Demanding Money

Evergy issued a warning to customers about scammers who are pretending to be with the company have been calling people to steal personal information and money.

The company said that individuals are demanding immediate payment in order to avoid service disconnection.

Evergy added that calls of this nature are never made on the same day as the disconnection.

Several customers had called the company claiming to have received suspicious calls, and that in many of these instances the caller claimed to be an Evergy customer service representative in order to get the potential victim to provide a credit card number or other personal info. They would either say that the customer has a past-due bill or their previous payment had bounced.

In some cases, the scammers asked customers to use a pre-paid debit card, but Evergy stated that they would never ask a customer to use that as a form of payment for service.
