Trial begins for Wichita woman charged in son’s death

A jury is now hearing testimony in Sedgwick County District Court in the trial of a Wichita woman charged in the death of her 2-year-old son.

The trial began this week for 25-year-old Kimberly Compass, who is charged with first degree murder.   Her son, Zayden Jaynesahkluah, was found dead at a motel near Pawnee and Broadway in May, 2019.   An autopsy found that he died of methadone poisoning.

Compass has said that she had methadone for a drug-treatment program, but she denied using it on her son.
