The Star Spangled Salute is presented by
Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Retired U.S. Army Veteran Lt. Col. Barnard Kemter. Barnard has been in the news since Memorial Day because he was giving a speech when his mic was cut off as he began to speak about freed Black slaves honoring fallen Civil War Soldiers. He was censored by organizers who said his words were about slaves and the Civil War were irrelevant to the Memorial Day ceremony despite the fact that the roots of the holiday come from the Civil War. Well now, his local American Legion will give him the opportunity to share his important words thanks to an invitation to speak at their Buckeye Boys State, an annual gathering that teaches young men about government. Thank you Barnard for keeping history alive and THANK YOU for your service.
